Storytelling and Fables by Kirsten 8NF
Today students were exploring African style of drama and stories. The students were given an animal that they have to act out and they had to imagine the animal in its natural habitat and bring that to the stage. Each student was giving a mask which was the shape and colour of their animal, Miss Gray (Head of Drama) was leading the group and directing the piece she also gave any constructive criticism when needed. Although it took a while to grab the attention of the students and really engage them into the style of drama, it was soon successful as everyone concentrated on getting a good piece of drama.

The drama included talent from all students and introduced them to real African culture. We asked Miss Grey how she thought the day was going and whether she thought introducing a new culture to the students was a positive thing to do, she replied “I think its good for the children to be exploring different cultures because otherwise they get comfortable in their own culture and will never try and learn about others”.
Overall it was an enjoyable session for all and the drama side of the day was a complete success as everyone really embraced the African culture. |
